PACS: Added Elements
We all know that there are three basic elements constructing modern Picture Archiving and Communication System or PACS: image capture, data storage, and archiving. Aside from these three elements, there are also other parts that make the system much more functional.
Even the most basic PACS data storage solution offers image processing. All medical images stored on the data storage servers are kept in their raw format, but they are processed as physicians and medical personnel access them. Aside from image adjustments, the PACS data storage server will also apply labels and add pre-diagnostic pointers to help doctors complete their job effectively and accurately.
Security is another important element incorporated by all PACS data storage solution. Remember that medical information is considered very sensitive and must be protected properly. HIPAA information security standard is used to prevent unauthorized access and unwanted information theft.
Last but not least, every PACS data storage solution offers backup functionalities. Automated backup mechanisms are put in place not only to protect the stored information but also to protect the system itself in the event of a disaster. Data recovery can be done easily from the incremental backup files, maintaining a smooth operation at all times.
